About the Auctions for the Eskies!
The Auctions for the Eskies were started by Pat Cassel in the Summer of 1999. The first auction was actually a combined Eskie/Keeshond auction. The auction was held in July to help out Chance, an eskie who needed to surgery to help him breathe properly. You can read more about the first Eskie/Kees auction in the "past auctions" section. This first auction, with the help of Kees AND Eskie folks, was definitely a winner! Since the auction was first hosted on John Tewksbury(PeskiPix)'s space, and he wouldn't be able to do this regularly, we offered to move the auctions to Eskie Central here! Pat still does all the hard work of arranging everything, taking bids, etc, and we just do all the setup/page work. But...all in all, it works pretty well together. When moving the auction to Eskie Central, of course, the title "Eskie Auctions" was considered, but we went with "Auctions for the Eskies" so that it wouldn't be mistaken for selling dogs or anything. We're here to help the eskies, so the auctions are FOR them! Though we can't help EVERY eskie in need(we sure would if we could!!!), we try to help out all we can. With fosters and rescue folks across North America, we've had a number of "special needs" cases, which usually required some expensive surgery or other care, prior to being placed in a permanent, loving home! Heart Bandits is the national AED rescue group and in 1998, the Jake Fund was setup to help pay for "extraordinary veterinary expenses". Of course....you have to read Jake's story...but the truth is...there are "other Jakes" across the country in need of some serious care as well, and as we can, we are trying to help some of these darling eskies out! Though actual cases and causes may vary some(you have to read each auction for its details), most are special cases needing large vet bills paid off(or at least reduced significantly), but if any amounts are raised above and beyond the needed amount for the specified eskie(s), the extra amount is fed into some worthy fund as Heart Bandits general fund, or even the Jake Fund. All in all....the amounts raised go ENTIRELY to either specific cases or related funds that are then used for other like cases! Many folks donate either in dollars to the cases/funds, or as of late, many have also been offering items for the auctions. Thus, we have been getting a good amount and variety of items up for auction each time! This, of course, makes bidding fun and exciting! Pat has been making sure that EACH dog that the auction is being held for also gets a "special package" sent to them(the dog).....this is sold via the auction, but the eskie gets the package! It's been neat to watch all of this as hundreds and hundreds of dollars is being raised to help some special dogs out! The auctions are still young, but if Pat keeps running them with the great knack she has, and we all keep helping out(in donations AND bids), these can only get better. It's also been neat to see many of the items that have come across for sale on this auction. MANY of them are unique and/or hard to find items. Thus, not only can you find some great items, you can do a little Christmas, birthday, or other gift shopping while also helping out a special dog! We'll keep doing all we can at the various ends of operation of the auction, and we appreciate ALL the help and involvement in these auctions, as it all adds up to being WONDERFUL! Thanks....and....see ya 'round.....
As always...make it a great day! :)
