Sunflower Heart Rescue / Marilyn Johnson SUNFLOWER-HEART RESCUE/MARILYN JOHNSON Sunflower-Heart Rescue of Wichita, Kansas started summer of 1999 as the result of needy Eskies in the southern Kansas/Northern Oklahoma area. To date we have rescued four Eskies from local pound, taken in five owner surrenders and purchased three puppies to prevent unlimited breeding. We have three foster homes, two in Wichita and one in Caldwell, Kansas with three waiting for approval. We were lucky enough to be profiled in a ¾ size page news story in November with one 8/10 color photo and one 3x5 b/w photo! This resulted in our vet Doctor to waive/reduce some services for us and brought us to the attention of the local charity organizers so we are now listed with them on a weekly basis. We have also received donations of food, water/food bowls, new collars, new and used leashes, medical supplies and bathing supplies. We promote responsible pet ownership, humane treatment and advocate education on all levels Many people work in animal advocacy and rescue. We wish they didn't have to. We wish the need for them wasn't so urgent. Our goal is to provide information to everyone that will ultimately lower the numbers of the animals needing help and assistance, thereby lessening the burden on ALL of us.
