Buddy's Story!

Hi, my name is Buddy and I'm an Eskie BridgeKid. I want to tell you my story with hope that other Eskie kids will have a better chance in life than I did.

I can't remember my life before that hot day in June when I passed out on the street in Queens NY. I had not had anything to drink or eat for so long. I was so hot, thirsty and weak that I just fell over. When I woke up, a nice lady named Kim had taken me into her house and given me some food and water. I liked Kim a lot, and had fun playing with her other dogs and cats, but then a man came into the house and I got very upset because I just had this feeling he was up to no good. Turns out he was her husband and I shouldn't have gone after him. Who knew? Kim told me I couldn't stay at her house anymore and she sent me over to her neighbors till she could figure out what to do with me.

I did not like the neighbors at all! They were mean and had a nasty Pit Bull that kept snarling at me. I remember their teenage son opening both the crates and letting the Pit Bull at me....it was a hell of a fight and all I can remember was waking up in the hospital with my face and ear ripped open. I was scared in the hospital. I guess I should have been nicer to people but I hurt so much and was so sad.

Kim brought Denise to see me. Denise took me for a long cab ride to a Manhattan apartment where I met Beth and her 3 Eskies and two cats. I liked Klayna and Sebbie ok, but that Yugi rubbed me the wrong way. I peed on him every chance I could. I loved Beth, I stayed with her for 2 weeks and she never, ever left me alone unless Denise came over to watch me. They brushed me and cleaned the blood off my face ad took me to the doctor to make sure my face was healing.

Finally, I had to leave Beth's and they took me on a long car ride to CT where I had to spend the night with Ruth and Dick. I was picked up the next day by Mary and Larry and taken to their house. They had a lot of other Eskies there and I got along with most of them except for the big Alpha male Akita. I got along great with Mary and other women but did not like men at all. Every time Larry would get near me I would think he was trying to hurt me and I tried to bite him. Larry would get down on the kitchen floor with me and just keep talking softly. After a week I finally let him touch me. Over time we became best friends. I knew I could trust him. One evening I picked a fight with the male Akita and I got hurt again. His tooth caught my face stitches and ripped them out. Mary called Larry and he came and took me to the doctors and they had to re-stitch my face. They would not let Akida and I together after that. I was very happy with Larry and Mary for a while but I kept snapping at people, men especially. I spent 4 months with Larry and Mary. Larry and Mary had to go away at Halloween and asked Mary and Gerry M. to take care of me while they were gone. So Mary and Gerry came with their two young children Amanda and Stephen and took me to their house.

I was only suppose to stay there for 4 days, but when Larry and Mary came back to town, Gerry and Mary could not bear to let me go. It was very nice at Mary and Gerry's house with a huge yard all fenced in and they even had another Eskie named Bobby. (I won't mention the 2 obnoxious cats who kept swatting my face). Mary and Gerry adopted me. HURRAY! I HAVE A NEW HOME!!

Things were great at my new home. The kids used my big soft jelly belly as a pillow while they watched TV. I liked that a lot cause I would lick up all the crumbs from their snacks that they would drop. I settled in nicely at my new home. I had my own crate to hang out in. I had my own bed on the floor next to Daddy. And I even had my very own food bowl. I had lots of fun running in the yard and playing fetch. My new Mom and Dad taught me things called commands. I learned them very quickly because I was eager to please and I am a very smart boy. I even got to sleep under the Christmas tree. I loved my new family and they loved me.

One thing was still wrong, I still didn't trust any men. My new family was always having company, they said it was my aunts and uncles and grandma. Grandma always tossed Bobby and me cookies. But I always got very scared when the company came over, I would try to bite them. Mom and Dad said I had something called fear aggression. I couldn't help myself. I didn't want to be like that but something inside was wrong. I could not control myself.

One day a man came over, he was called a trainer. He was there to teach me how to behave, but I already new how to sit, stay, lay down, and then some. He was there to help Mom and Dad modify my behavior. After a lot of time with the trainer, Mom and Dad took me to see three vets. One vet was a behaviorist. They checked all my past medical records and did some tests on me. They said I had neurological damage. It was caused from the nasty puncture wound behind my ear that almost tore my ear off completely. The vet said my behavior would get worse in time because of the brain damage. I was so scared inside and I still hurt so badly. I was very sad. My Mom and Dad cried a lot after that appointment.

I was emotionally in a lot of pain for a long time. My new Mom and dad loved me a lot. So on Valentine's Day 2000, my mom and dad showed me the ultimate act of love. They helped me go to the Rainbow Bridge. Here I am happy and not afraid of anything. I am nice to everyone and everyone is kind to me. I run free and watch over the special people in my life. I am here waiting for my human family Mary, Gerry, Amanda, Stephen, and my Eskie brother Bobby. I am here watching over all the special people who helped me. I want to say a special thank you to Larry, Mary, Denise and Beth for taking good care of me.

Larry, my foster dad, (I now called him Uncle Larry) had contacted Pat who does these auctions to see if she could help and raise some money to help with my medical bills. She said she would after the rescuER auction. The rescuer auction ended and Pat contacted my mom to do an auction for me. By then, I was a BridgeKid. My mom wanted to do the auction anyway to be reimbursed for all the money she spent on vet bills and training. Mary and Gerry spent about $700 in the 4 short months I was with them. Then, as my Mommy was helping me write this story, it dawned on her that she did all that she could to help me because she LOVED me.

She still wants an auction dedicated to me and in my memory, but the money raised will be given to the next dire need Eskies. I cannot be helped now, but there are others who need the help. So please bid high on the items in my name. Please help the other Eskies in MY MEMORY.

Mary, Gerry and family also want to send each of the other Eskies in this auction a special gift. A new toy that was the same as my favorite ball, a package of yummy greenies and other things.. Look for these packages in the auction. The packages will be sent to Sandy and Cookie. Bid high please!

If you don't remember any thing about me, remember this!! Please HELP STOP ORGANIZED
DOG FIGHTS!! Be careful with your furkids cuz dogs are stolen to be USED as sparring partners. Dogs are killed EVERY DAY being used as bait! If it would not have been for that fight, I would be with you today enjoying life on Earth.

I am at peace now. Luv ya all,
Buddy-Waiting patiently at the Bridge!
