Giving Life a Second Chance
This raffle is being held to help raise fund for IMOM(In Memory of Magic). IMOM is a non-profit organization that helps many pets in need throughout the year. Many of these pets have an alternative of either "last resort help" or "death", and it's IMOM that helps many times in the "last resort". Thus, their organization and purpose is so very much in line with our very own "Second Chance" theme that we are helping with this raffle to rebuild some of their depleted funds(due to lots of help extended out already!). Please...help us help IMOM! Read more about IMOM on the "information" page, but then goto the IMOM site and learn more....including how to help IMOM year round! We are continuing to support those who help others as well as honoring the spirit of those who have done so for these wonderful creatures(be they dogs, cats, horses,....any pet!). Together...we can all help out in...
Giving Life a Second Chance...

Raffle Details- October/November 2000

October is "ADOPT A SHELTER DOG"Month! Save a life and adopt a shelter orrescue dog!

*IMOM IS IN DIRE NEED OF FUNDS**
**LET'S ALL HELP IMOM "GET BACK ON THEIRPAWS, HOOVES, FEET!!**
***EVERYONE HAS PERMISSION TO CROSS POST!The more the merrier!***

We are only planning ONE October fundraiser,a raffle for IMOM (In Memory of Magic). Magicis a very loved cat that journeyed to theBridge in 1998. Magic's Mom, Jacki Hadra,is the Founder and Director of IMOM. IMOMis an all volunteer non-profit 501(c)3 organizationfounded in November 1998. You can learn moreabout IMOM on their own site. Their primary focus is in offering financialaid for emergency veterinary care to ANYcompanion animal whose "person"or "people" have found themselvesin financial difficulty and faced with onlythree options:

1. Having to make the decision to have theirbeloved pet euthanized simply because theyhave no money.
2. Having to take their loved animal to ashelter or given up in some other way.
3. Apply to IMOM for financial aid as theirlast avenue of hope. (Note: IMOM does haverequirements, guidelines, an applicationto be filled out, and every application isreviewed by the board members).

(Now…..which one would YOU choose if youwere in such a case!?!?) That's why we'reso glad to offer what help we can be to IMOM!

IMOM has four funds established besides theones they set up for individual pets.
1. General Emergency Fund - this is the onethat always gets hit the hardest as it isthe one that handles all of the emergencies.
2. Blind Dogs Fund
3. Diabetic Pet Fund
4. Kitties with Chronic Renal Failure

IMOM has paid out approximately $38,000 overthe last two years for veterinary care. Unfortunately, they get far more requests for help thandonations. As a result they are out of fundsand have MANY pets waiting for IMOM help. These animals are suffering and IMOM feelshelpless. Let's be that ray of sunshine atthe end of this dark tunnel!

Remember in December 1999…we were not planninganother auction till January 2000? But eventsunfolded involving a Maltese named Suki.An elderly woman was sobbing uncontrollablyas she prepared to surrender one of her twoclose Maltese companions of the past 7 yearsto a Florida shelter on Saturday, December11, 1999. Suki was diagnosed with a heartdisease, which meant special medications. Her Mom, Alice, was not able to afford themonthly medications herself. Rather thanallow her precious friend to die from lackof treatment, the woman somehow found thecourage to give Suki up in the hopes thatsomeone would adopt her, giving her a lovinghome and the medical treatment she will requirefor the rest of her life. Alice thought shewould never see Suki again, in fact she imaginedthe worst would happen, PTS. Suki didn'tstand much of a chance of being adopted dueto her being 10 yrs young and now a heartdisease. As the elderly woman finished thepaperwork, she clutched Suki one more timeand handed over Suki's tiny hair barrettes, food, medications, collar, and even Suki'sstorybook, "Clifford's Christmas."Little Suki just wagged her tail and cockedher head, not understanding what was happeningor that she would never see her beloved humanagain. As the elderly woman turned away fromSuki for the last time and walked slowlyout of the shelter, she was inconsolable.A shelter worker immediately called KittenJones, the operator of the Lighthouse AnimalRescue (all breed) and the Florida chapterdirector for Heart Bandits American EskimoRescue. Kitten rescued Suki from the shelter, arrangements were made with IMOM. Suki wasreunited with her Mom and best bud Bubbleson Dec 16. A few Eskiers and I felt compelledto help and organized the fastest- auction-evertogether in 2 days. We raised over $400,which was given to IMOM for Suki's fund. Please read Suki's story from that auction and a more detailed IMOM Suki story. A heart tugger for sure! With the helpof IMOM, we shared in the joy of knowingthat Suki and her family were able to celebratea VERY special Christmas 1999!

ALL the animals on IMOM's "Pets in Need"page NEED HELP!! They are counting on someoneto help them out! Let that be everyone whocan help…..let's ALL help IMOM get back ontheir "paws, hooves, feet". Familiarizeyourself with IMOM. Maybe become a monthlydonator (even $5 a month), or maybe a quarterlyor yearly donator.

Check out the IMOM shop at http://www.imom.org/shop/merchandise.htm. Help get the word out about IMOM and puppymills. Check out the shirts: "BlindDogs See With Their Hearts"-just toocute! If you love to cook, check out theirrecipe book! Check out their auctions at http://www.imom.org/imom_auction/index.htm. I already registered for their auctionsand by the time you read this, I hope tobe the lucky winner of 2 Voice for the VoicelessT-shirts! I want to help spread the word!

Don't forget….Christmas is right around thecorner again! (Some people have already seensnow this fall too…..so the season is definitelycoming on strong!) Whether or not you'vedone your "shopping" yet, here'sa SUPER idea: Raffle tickets to help IMOM!Yep….think about it! You buy a few(or maybea whole bunch) of tickets, and IMOM getshelped out. This means more help to the animalsin need that IMOM helps. This means morepets can get the help they need, and, dueto this, more joy and appreciation to theirowners, as well as to the animals themselves. That alone is enough to warrant a bunch ofraffle tickets…..it's one of the best giftsyou can give….one that helps pets AND people!Plus…..you could even win a prize or twofrom the raffle……which you could then turnaround and give to someone else! HEY…..now,that's smart shopping! EVERYONE benefits!Let's make this the BIGGEST raffle eventyet!

IMOM is a great organization. As Jill says, there is POWER in masses. Buying even ONEticket ($1) in THIS raffle helps. Think….if EVERYONE WHO READS THIS PAGE, buys justONE ticket?!? Your pets would probably evenallow you to spend some of their treat moneyfor tickets(though they'd probably want anyprizes you might win then!). Let's make itrain(or snow for those of us up north) dollarsfor IMOM! Think about this….call your petover to you (okay…I know… cats are independent, you may have to go and get your cat!), andlook in those eyes! What if YOUR pet neededexpensive care and you desperately neededfinancial help to manage the expense? Whatwould you do? There are NOT a lot of placesto turn in such cases. IMOM is one that DOEShelp in many of these cases…..it's individualsand organizations like IMOM that make a bigdifference in the lives of many pets andtheir owners! Let's show our appreciation,AND our support. Let's ALL help out in…..Giving Life A Second Chance!

The raffle is now over, but results willremain posted. Thanks again to everyone whohelped out!
