Mr. Fritz's Story!
Hi I'm Mr. Fritz. I was left at the pound
in Garden City, Kansas in Oct 99. Danna Jones, a wonderful lady
rescued me from being put down. She put a plea out to the Internet
community and contacted Wayne Mayes. Wayne in turn relayed her
plea to the Eskie Owners List where "Garden City" caught
my soon-to-be new FosterMom's (Marilyn) eye. Arrangements were
made to get me to Wichita KS.
Danna had taken me to be bathed/groomed and
while attempting to make a neuter appointment with her vet, she
discovered that the Dr. is off one Thursday a month to....(get
this) drive to Wichita, KS to pick up his supply of Science Diet
Pet foods! Danna called FosterMom Marilyn and she met Dr. Sells
and me at the local Science Diet distribution center which was
all of 1 1/2 miles from my new fosterhome!!!! The day before
I arrived in Wichita, my new FosterMom panicked as she was at
her limit of dogs and had to find another foster family fast.
She called some friends, relatives, her vet's office and the
local PALS group. Barb of PALS had a wonderful home and fenced
yard that she was most anxious about sharing with another foster,
she already has a doggy of her own and one foster! Mom Marilyn
picked me up at the vets office and took me over to meet Barb
and her furkids. We all got along fine. Saturday morning Marilyn
got a call from her dog class teacher. There was a family she
met at the Petsmart looking for an Eskie!!! FosterMom Marilyn
called them and the family came over for tea and biscuits(hey,
I like biscuits!). Of course, I was very cool, calm and collected
and this family was too!!! The two children were very interested
in me. The next day the new family called to see if I could attend
a "slumber party" the coming weekend at their house!
Mom said yes and took me over on Saturday and picked me up on
Sunday. I love slumber parties and I knew they wanted me to be
the newest member of their family.
On October 26th I went to my new forever home!
The next day as Daddy was talking to the vet about my "potty
routine", the vet said to bring me in ASAP. I was diagnosed
as having "constrictor of the penis". X-rays showed
a blockage at the base of the urethra leading into the penis.
They also discovered that while both hip sockets were bad, one
was allot worse than the other. At first the vets thought they
may have to operate on the hips as well as the blockage problem.
After further consultation it has been decided that since I do
not show any discomfort, will not live in a house with stairs,
do not compete in shows etc., that for now it will be treated
with oral medications. Yea!!
On Oct 31st I went trick or treating with
my new family and got to meet all the neighbors. November 2,
FosterMom Marilyn took me to the vet for my surgery. The surgery
was expensive but they made me stay, AND STAY!! I should
be released on Nov 11. My wonderful "Eskie Granny"
, Bonnie Johnson (Marilyn's Mother ) fell in love with me and
was kind enough to front us the money for my surgery....until
the auction gets underway.

Dr. Mohney, Me(Mr. Fritz), and assistant Stacie Hammond...pretty
cool folks, and I'm grateful to have had them take good care
of me. You can see I really like Stacie...hey, she can assist
me anytime! Sure a cutie, isn't she!!! ;-) |
It has been a scary experience. I heard them
say that my bladder walls had thickened, and if it had lost its
elasticity to expand and contract, then the urine will leak out
if the obstruction is cleared. That meant I would dribble for
the rest of my life!! Would anyone want me?? Then the good news
came, my bladder contracted like it should when empty and stayed
that way! My bladder is functioning OK even though the walls
are thickened.
So what did they do? I'm getting to that part!
They completely bypassed the old exit path for urine and created
a new one! I will now potty like a girl, but then lots of boy
dogs squat anyway. No big deal!! I'm a big boy and I can handle
it. They also made the path larger so that if I get anymore stones
they should be able to pass without any problems. I had numerous
stones at the entrance to the old exit, catching on each other
and blocking the path. As far as my hips are concerned, both
vets feel that since I am about 3 years old and show no problems
with the hips now, I will be treated with anti-inflammitories
on a regular basis to try and prevent them from getting worse.
My Heart Goes Out To You ALL!! You have made
this possible. You have given me "another chance at life".
I love you ALL.
Eskie Kisses and Hugs, Love and Licks,
Mr. Fritz |
