| When the tests came back the vet told my parents I was suffering from a disease called Pyloric Stenosis, or a narrowing of the outlet from the stomach to the small intestine. He said I was born with this and if they didn't do surgery I would eventually starve to death. I remember my mommy was crying because she was afraid I would die. My disease is rare and is genetic in nature. This condition is caused by a thickening of the stomach muscles which, over time, prevents the stomach from emptying into the small intestine. That is why I was throwing up so much. I could not digest the food I ate so with every meal my tummy would get more full until I threw up. The vet told mom and dad that if I didn't have surgery that I would starve to death from inadequate nutrition and my internal organs would be affected. He also told mom and dad that the operation would be very expensive and that he couldn't do it and that a specialist would have to. I was so scared when I heard this since no one has ever done anything to help me. My mommy and daddy, without hesitation, scheduled my surgery for the next Monday. They didn't care how much it cost or how they'd pay it off, they just couldn't sit back and watch me slowly die. That night mommy held me and told me I would be o.k. She would cuddle me and sing to me. I knew that I finally was loved. |

I was in the hospital for 1 week. The surgeon made an incision from my pyloric muscle to the inner layer of my stomach. This was done to release the constriction so food can pass and be digested. Once my tummy muscles heal, I will be able to eat and drink normally. When I came home from the hospital, I noticed I had an ugly 4 inch scar on my belly and they had shaved all my beautiful white fur. Mommy said I looked beautiful no matter what. I had a lamp shade(elizabethan collar-don't know why they'd call it that!) collar on my head so I wouldn't pull out my stitches. My bother and sister, Murphy and Snoopy were afraid of me. They didn't want to come near me. My first few days back home after being in the hospital were tough. I still was throwing up a little and it would drip into the lamp shade collar. I didn't smell very good but mommy didn't care. She would clean me off and kiss me anyway. She still cuddled and sang to me. I had to be confined in the kitchen so I wouldn't rupture my internal stitches so mommy slept on the kitchen floor with me. By the third day home I stopped throwing up and haven't since. I feel so much better and have a lot of energy. Too much mom says. Thanks to mommy and daddy I will not die slowly as I would have without the surgery. I am looking forward to running in the park with my family and making many happy memories. Thank all of you for helping me too. I'm sending out lots of kisses, so be sure to catch one.
