History of the Eskie Contest
The Eskie Contest got its start more or less on a fluke. We were able to get a copy of an eskie book quite cheaply in May of 1998 and since we already had a copy, decided to offer it up via a "contest". The question was simple...merely requesting entrants to tell us why they should get the book. And, we started right off with a donation as well. The Jake Fund, which was set up by Heart Bandits to pay for extraordinary vet expenses of some rescues, was our selected donation for the contest.
Response was definitely positive, with some saying this should be run again, or regularly! So, after considering it some, and dealing with a number of things in the summer of 1998, we returned with the contest on more or less a "monthly" basis in September of 1998. As the contest was, and still is as of mid 1999, mostly run by one person, we dubbed the contest "Unkle Munky's Monthly Eskie Contest" (UMMEC for short.) That way people would know where to look for it!
More interest and even some help on donations and prizes came about in late '98 and early '99. In February, we turned the contest into a wild time by making it an "online eskie show". This was on the heels of Westminster, and was quite a time for sure! The American Eskimo Dog Online Specialty Show(AEDOSS) was, as the contest itself(which it was run within), well received and will also be seen more of in the future!
It was around this time that, after long consideration, we decided a domain for our various efforts was in order. When we found that "eskie.net" was available again, we decided to reserve it. Thus, after the March contest, we decided to concentrate on moving the contest to the new site. Not without its delays, the April and May contests were moved to June and in coordination with the grand opening of the new site, we offered up an EskieStravaganza! Thus, our "first anniversary" of the contest is being celebrated in fine fashion!
And, it is here that we are at present. We intend to continue the contests, hopefully on a monthly basis. AEDOSS will be a part of the contest once or twice a year, and we hope the contest will keep growing as well! We dropped the UMMEC designation and now just refer to it as the"Monthly Eskie Contest at Eskie Central". With such a domain as this, we knew we HAD to make it a neat eskie site, so we went all out and put all our Eskie related stuff in one central location- Eskie Central! Now, the contest, as well as other eskie related pages, can be easily found on the new pages!
We hope you like the contest and will help us keep making our history even more interesting!
