What I did last Summer
. . . As seen by "Zac Raisbeck"
My summer started out with a new
family member and playmate, Zoey. My person chose a Siberian
Husky in April, although she had promised me an Eskie. She assured
me that an Eskie would be next. I knew it was going to be an
eventful summer.
In May, I was waiting to see this
Eskie who would soon join our family. My person showed me pictures
of our new Eskie sibling on the computer. My person got very
sad in June and told me that we would have to choose a new Eskie
friend to come and join our family. She said that people are
just not as loyal and trustworthy as pets and that we would search
for the perfect playmate to adopt (all over again). I was glad
that we had decided to look for a rescue dog instead of a puppy.
I am way too old to deal with the likes of a puppy.
I went to the beach with Zoey. We
played in the surf and the sand. It really helped to control
our fleas, along with the Advantage that our person uses. It
was a lot of fun. I especially enjoyed the egg salad sandwiches,
but there was something missing . . . I kept thinking we would
meet up with our new Eskie on the beach. We kept going home empty
handed.
The first week in June our person
let the human kids decide on our new family member. I kept trying
to tell her to choose all three! Dorothy and Isabel chose a very
cute mini female Eskie from Kansas. I couldn't wait to meet her.
I think Zoey was excited too. I am not as playful as I used to
be.
A couple of weeks had passed and
we still had not met our new family member. Then suddenly I saw
lots of luggage and our person was packing. I knew we must be
going on a trip. I knew we were going much further than the beach.
It was Saturday, June 19, when we got up and packed everything
into the van. I was suprised that everyone was going . . . the
human kids and Zoey included. Wow, we were in that van for 8
hours. When we finally got to Richmond, KY, I thought we would
greet the new addition. Where is she I thought. Well, everyone
was tired and we all settled into this strange room for the night.
The next morning there was a knock
at the door . . . It was her! She was very small and dainty.
They decided to call her Toto. Then suddenly to my suprise there
was Angel. I thought "wow, two new family members".
Zoey and I were so excited. It wasn't long and all of us crowded
into the van and headed home. I couldn't wait to show them the
house, the cat, etc. What a long drive.
Everyone settled in quite well. Then
the saddest thing happened . . . The very next weekend our person
took Toto and Angel on a trip. I was mad because I couldn't go.
I thought I was going to be all alone with Zoey again. Later
that day our person returned. Toto was with her, but where was
Angel? I wished that Angel could have stayed too. My person assured
me that she would have a good home. I was kind of glad because
that was less food I had to share.
Zoey and Toto got very attached to
each other. They played all of the time. I was glad because that
gave more me time to nap. I was very happy to have these two
additions to the family, except when they would wake me up. We
played together in the yard. Zoey and Toto would play in the
wading pools and we had a lot of fun running around with the
two human children. We also continued to take trips to the beach
and go for walks. July was a hot month and any excuse to cool
off was a good one.
I hadn't expected any other additions
to the family but on Sunday, August 8, our person got into the
car with Toto and went on another short trip. At first I thought
that Toto would not come back but when they returned ... There
was another dog with them. This time it was a mix between an
Eskie and a Husky. We called her Tawny. She seemed very confused.
She was very beautiful. I wondered why our person would get another
big dog. Our house just wasn't big enough. This dog seemed very
confused. Two weeks later our person went on another trip. This
time she left all of us at home except for Tawny and the human
kids. I was sad to see Tawny go. I hated the fights that she
and Zoey had gotten into though. I think it was for the best.
When our person returned she assured us that Tawny had gotten
a good home. I was glad that at least I knew that Zoey and Toto
would be staying no matter what. Even though I still didn't want
to share my food, it was nice to have them in the family.
So, we continued our summer. Our
person said that she wouldn't be fostering again for a while.
She said she has her hands full with us, the human kids and the
cats. She said that it is too sad to say goodbye. She wants to
keep all of the foster dogs. I am glad she doesn't though. I
like being spoiled. I am afraid that if we get any more family
members that we all won't fit into the car and our trips to the
beach will stop. I know she will help out some more rescue dogs
soon. I think she needed a break.
Well, it was a very eventful summer
and I made a lot of new friends. I got two additions to my family.
I spent alot of time at the beach. I played with my humans. I
really enjoyed all of the cookouts! Now it is autumn and I have
two buddies to rustle in the leaves with while the human kids
are at school. I am so happy that this winter I will not be alone.
I will have my buddies to keep me warm. Humans are pretty cool,
but there is nothing like having your own K-9 kind to hang out
with!
P.S. I think that next summer I might
start a human foster rescue group ... I know alot of those humans
need help if they are dumping these beautiful friends of mine
into shelters. |
