Our February Contest was a little different than usual, so we'll explain:

In February, we essentially turned the monthly contest over to being an online dog show, for eskies only, of course! Thus, our "virtual dog show", known as the first American Eskimo Dog Online Specialty Show(AEDOSS for short) was rather a great time for all. In fact, AEDOSS was such a major effort that we set up an entire area just for the show. AND, with our move to the new site in late spring '99, we gave AEDOSS its very own section in Eskie Central! Therefore, to see results of the past AEDOSS as well as information on planned future shows, check out the AEDOSS section by clicking on the appropriate button!

The first AEDOSS was rather a last minute effort, but it didn't make in any less of a contest....it really was a blast! Kathy Brandt really came in well by offering up gourmet dog biscuits for the show winners! She sent us a sample prior to the shows and our girls just loved 'em! We had arranged to send 3 wire crates to Tender Heart Animal Rescue, and packed in a few goodies as well once we got the crates ready to ship. These were essentially "refurbished" crates, but like the ones we've used for our girls here, they are really just fine crates, even if nothing fancy. They are the same type crates as offered as a prize for our October 1998 contest.

Below is some information that Wayne Mayes from Tender Heart sent me prior to the contest:

We are located in southwest Missouri and have been doing rescue work for a little over a year now. We became involved with rescue back in Jan. of 1998 while we were looking for an American Eskimo puppy to purchase. We started reading about the homeless animals and the efforts people were making to save them and became interested in helping. We never purchased that puppy but did rescue and adopt last year two from a local kill shelter. They have since become our constant companions and helpers.

Our first rescue effort was to help transport 6 adult American Eskimos from Dogwood Animal Shelter to the TN state line in our Saturn on their way to Light House Animal Rescue. They got sick on the trip and I was having second thoughts about doing this when I felt the oldest female Eskie lick my hand and I looked down in her eyes. It was as if she was saying thank you for saving my life. My heart melted and I knew right then I was hooked forever. My wife and I cried most of the way to the border and we started planning on how we could do this again. We rescued and placed 100 animals in 1998 and our goal for 1999 is 150. We have helped transport over 200 animals so far and that number grows every day.

We became a non-profit corporation in August of 1998 and started trying to build a network of members and people who care for animals. We are in the process of raising the funds to build a kennel here to be used as a safe house for rescue animals and rescue animals in transit through southwest Missouri. We are an all breed rescue group because all animals need a second chance to be loved. We do referrals all the time if we don't have the exact animal you are looking for.

We founded the National Rescue Transport Volunteers List made up of people who do breed rescue and are willing to help other breeds when transportation is needed in their area. We rescue and place animals in loving homes all over the US and Canada.

Here at Tender Heart Animal Rescue Inc. we have a 7 page adoption application and a 3 page adoption contract. We want to know that when we adopt an animal out it is going to a loving home and will be treated as a family member. Several of the animals we have rescued and adopted out are now serving the public as therapy dogs and we are delighted to be able to help the animals and the public as well. We are involved with educating the public about responsible pet ownership and constantly promote rescue animals and organizations that are rescue friendly. We don't buy products from companies that aren't and we encourage everyone to do the same.
