You can scroll down to get
right to the winning entry, but first are further details on
the July contest:
First off is the wire
crate. We are offering a choice this time. We have winner's choice
of either a Medium or Large wire crate made by Woodstream. The
brand name is Thrifty but Nifty; they are made by Woodstream(an
EKCO division), and are sold as economy crates. They are nothing
too fancy, and certainly are not as hardy as the best of the
best out there, but they do work as good basic crates. We've
used some of these refurbished units on our dogs and they're
just fine! Retail value on these crates is $30 to $50.
In the pics above are
two different photos of these crates(probably a "small"
in the pictures). Choice of sizes are:
Medium: 29" long,
22" wide, and 25" high
Large: 35" long,
23" wide, and 26" high
OK....for our Featured
Donation, we are offering our monthly tidbit($10 from us) to
the Delta Society Organization. Delta has many programs that
benefit animals AND people! Delta Society's mission is to promote
mutually beneficial relationships between animals and people
to help people improve their health, independence, and quality
of life. Delta's goals are to expand awareness of the positive
effect animals can have on human health and development, to remove
barriers that prevent involvement of animals in everyday life,
and to expand the therapeutic and service role of animals in
human health, service, and education. They were established in
1977 in Oregon, and continue their efforts to this day! You can

All right....We wanted
to know what your "first impression" of the American
Eskimo Dog was! Whether good, bad, whatever....we wanted to know
what your first encounter or experience was in respect to the
Eskie. We had some good entries, but there was something extra
delightful in our winning entry. It just seemed to show the appreciation
for both dogs and people that means so much to all of us(and
we loved the seal pup comment...maybe that's what hooked us!?!).
And, so, here is Joyce's entry:
Ahhh,I
remember it well.....
I watched
the Hallmark hall of Fame Special "To Dance With the White
Dog". I adore anything featuring Hume Cronyn and Jessica
Tandy... Both on screen and in real life, they always personified
grace, humor, and love... In this movie,Hume Cronyn is grieving
over his dear departed wife, when this beautiful white dog shows
up(AE of course), and he becomes convinced(as do we viewers)
that this is his wife's spirit. He and the white dog become inseperable.
My father had just passed away when I watched the movie,so it
was especially
emotional for me as I saw Hume Cronyn's character go through
the grief process to find hope again. The AE's "character"
was entirely responsible for Hume's "transformation".
I was amazed at the dog's intelligence, beauty, and
agility. The dog was so HUMAN-like,it was easy to believe that
it was indeed the wife's spirit personified. It was so healing
for my spirit as well.By the end of the show,I had added the
American Eskimo to my list of "loves"....
My
heart wasn't quite ready for another pup yet, though. ( My 15
year old Lhasa Apso, Buffy, had to be put to sleep-kind of unhappy
times in my life...)
Anyway,
about 4 years ago, I "moonlighted" at a local pet store
that sold puppies.(Before anyone boos and hisses,I left after
only a few months because I was so against their methods. I will
say that the staff I worked with saw
to it that the pups and kitties got good care and clean kennels)
One of the autumn pups was an American Eskimo...Right off the
bat, this little one adopted me.He would go wild when he saw
me! He reminded me of a seal pup, all
white and fuzzy, those loving dark eyes and nose the only points
of color... He would turn into one big wiggle of excitement, then
nestle into my arms with a sigh of contentment, sometimes munching
on my hair,sometimes just drowsy.
Every time someone wanted to see him, my heart sank. I would
go home, and think and worry about him....it was a done deal....
I brought him home on New Year's Eve day. My McCloud is now going
on 4 years old. I am blessed. He has
a great personality, OFA and CERF certified, and continues to
be one of the great joys of my life....
On
Palm Sunday of this year, McTavish joined our family. He was
a rescue eskie from PA. He is almost a twin to McCloud, and
they get along as if they were raised together.......
"To
Dance With the White Dog" started my love affair with the
Dog Beautiful, and I will always be thankful......
Joyce
Brackett
