We've all got a few chimpanzees hanging from the limbs of our family tree. Ok, ok...you were expecting this one! Well...yes, we all do have a few "monkeys" of some sort hanging around in our family tree. Gee, some of us can even claim the title of being one of them! It's interesting to look at our families(in the extended "tree" sense). We'll see all kinds...intellects, professionals, laborers, jokesters, serious folks, moms, dads, uncles, aunts, etc. Maybe even a felon, genius, scholar, politician, or celebrity. For many of us, taking a look at our family trees is not only an enlightening experience in respects to our heritage, it is also an enlightening experience in respects to our present. By seeing the fuller picture of characters within our family, we can begin to see that really among our friends, co-workers, etc., we have "families" as well. In all of these, you will often find a "funster" of some sort. Yes, the "monkeys" of the families. As I've aged more, I've realized that, even though I have always tried to enjoy life and have always enjoyed a good laugh, that sometimes good laughs are to be made(and not just found). In fact, the more I've lived, the more I find EVERY DAY enjoyable. Sometimes it's the smallest things that can make for the most fun, and even when doing some hard, laborious work, it's a good laugh about it that makes it all the more worth the effort. It's in this that I have found great joy in the past many years of my life. By making little joys in my own life, and sharing little joys with those around me in everyday life, I have found even MORE joy. It IS contagious afterall! On the day I am writing this commentary, my second niece is celebrating her first birthday. Prior to her birth, her parents(my sister and her husband) had agreed on a girl's name(Emily), but had not agreed on a boy's name. Well, ol' Unkle Munky decided to go tromping through a name book for them and came up with a few "good" boy's names...just in case! The only one I recall was "Festus"! Seriously...and, yes, I suggested it to them. Sure, it was a good laugh then, and when I heard they had had a girl, I wasn't the least bit disappointed...afterall....she will ALWAYS be "Little Festus" no matter what her real name(Emily) is! What good are uncles if they can't be fun anyway??? I believe all of us can look around and find a few of the "monkeys in our lives"...don't overlook the love that is shared in the little joys of life...it is a most valuable treasure!
