Shekinah
Some years ago I ran across the word SHEKHINAH. After looking the word up in the dictionary, I was awed with it. Though it can have different spellings(note the one we use), AND it can even have different meanings(all religious), here is what can be summarized from a few of them:
SHEKINAH: The manifestation or presence of God.
Simply put, Shekinah is just that, the manifestation or presence of God. Though this may not sound like an earth shattering term, it can have profound meaning if we take it into our daily lives. In fact, by realizing that WE can bring the presence of God into our every action, we can begin to see its power. No, none of us IS God, BUT by trying to be more and more God-like in our actions, beliefs, and very selves, we CAN bring God not only into our own lives, BUT ALSO share that presence with those around us. Sharing the true love of God is ALWAYS an enlightening experience, and one that is far too overshadowed and underappreciated in our selfish society.
This section is devoted to the Shekinah, or presence of God, in our lives. In time, we'll be adding more to this, but we wanted to get a start and this is it. We hope to add some pages of interesting information here as well in the future. Below are some links to some Christian, Theological, and Religious sites or pages on the net. Some can be very enlightening, but always remember that being a Christian is NOT a specatator sport...it's in our daily lives, our actions, AND our beliefs that our true spirits show! So...if you believe it...LIVE IT!
One more thing before getting to the links below, thought I'd add a little bit for those who didn't know. Shelby, the American Eskimo Dog I have, who just turned two years old has an interesting name. Though I bought her primarily as a pet, I have shown her some and so got to choose a "show name" for her when I got her. Usually "show names" are a small phrase or saying, with the dog also having a "call name". For instance, Jamie's full name is "Amity's Calamity Jane", though I didn't choose either. When I got Shelby, I had long liked the name Shelby and wanted that in there. Since she is from Pinebrook kennels, that name is in there too. I came up with her full name of "Shekinah Shelby of Pinebrook" out of that. I included the "Shekinah", NOT because she is an image or manifestation of God...she is NOT! I chose it, not only for its phonetic role, but also because of the meaning of the word. I wanted her to have that as a part of her name so that I would always bear in mind that she IS one of God's creatures and in THAT alone she is worthy of being treated with the love and decency that God wants for his creations. ALSO, I always wanted to remember that it is in MY(at least in my life) actions, through ALL my relationships that God's presence is either absent or present. Thus, by knowing that in ALL my actions and relationships, I want there to be Shekinah, I can have a constant reminder of that! Shelby is a wonderful dog and I dearly love her, but she is also only one aspect of my life, and I hope that I can truly live the Shekinah in ALL my relations in life.
