Western Women- Carrie Nation

Carrie Nation was yet another colorful character from the west. She gained a reputation in her later years as a hatchet carrying crusader. As a firm believer that alcohol and gambling were not only sinful, but destructive to our society, she took it on herself to do something about those things. She began taking her hatchet to bars and hacking the places up, destroying the liquor bottles and more...and surely putting the fear of God, or at least her attitude, into patrons of those bars. She was known as one who would carry a Bible in one hand and hatchet in the other!

Women's Christian Temperance Union: a group that Carrie Nation was a member of in her time.....though they might not have wanted to have such a colorful member as Carrie, she was a member at one time. The group STILL upholds many values to this day.....though maybe not with a hatchet as Carrie did!
