Western Women- Annie
Oakley
 |
Annie Oakley, who began life
as "Phoebe Anne Oakley Mozee", was born in August 1860
in Drake County, Ohio. She would go on to become one of the best
"sharpshooters" that this country has known. Annie
provided for her family early in her life by hunting not only
for their own food, but also by providing for others. She gained
a reputation for being a fine shooter early on, but would go
on to much greater fame! She also was dubbed "Little Miss
Sure Shot"....a title Sitting Bull gave her! |
|
Annie became one of the starring attractions
of Buffalo Bill's Wild West shows.....due to her showmanship,
talent, and outstanding character! She also went onto helping
our Nation's military with shooting lessons in the early part
of the 20th century. Annie was a lady as well as a fine shooter.
She passed away in 1926. |
